| IT is the fastest growing sector of the business marketplace. Not only is the sector
expanding, but so is the range of very specialised software packages and the need for good
personnel to operate them. IT recruitment falls into 5 main categories:- |

- Management - a much wider area of recruitment requiring very skillful selection
techniques. Candidates range from supervisor to senior manager and could either be
responsible for managing one small section of the IT function, specific projects or the
whole IT function itself. This could be for their employers, or for one or more companies
who have contracted their services.
- Support Staff - where individuals must be highly experienced in the systems they
are supporting as well as having the ability to communicate effectively and understand the
needs of non IT people.
- Development Staff - where they have either the right mindset and skillset or they
do not. This is a highly specialised area.
- Operational Staff - can often be at the first level in IT, sometimes without a
lot of technical experience but very keen and enthusiastic - often they are advanced users
of software packages.
- Graduates - where candidates are hoping to put into practice what they have
learned in their academic studies. They often have some relevant experience from work
placements completed as part of their degree.
